The Wave Sky 8 Experience with Podiatrist Steph Bain
The Mizuno Wave Sky 8 immediately impressed me with its refined aesthetics and updated design. The shoe retains the distinctive multicoloured wave pattern on the midsole, which adds a sleek, dynamic look while hinting at its performance capabilities. The overall visual upgrade compliments the shoe's functional improvements. I particularly love the white and multi blue colour-way.
The Wave Sky 8 builds upon the foundation of the previous version with enhanced cushioning and stability. The Mizuno Wave Sky 8's midsole has been upgraded with an additional 2mm of Mizuno ENERZY NXT, foam delivering a more cushioned, faster and more responsive ride. This extra cushioning is complimented by a wider midsole, which maintain's the shoe's stability. Thanks to the new foam, cushioning and energy return, achieved with a 35g weight reduction, the Sky 8 has markedly improved on the previous model.
During my first run in the Wave Sky 8, I immediately felt like I was running on clouds. The shoe is impressively light and exceptionally cushioned, yet the wave geometry throughout the midsole ensures it remains stable and fits perfectly into the premium max-cushioned category.
The lighter, updated upper of the Wave Sky 8 provides improved breathability and flexibility. The transverse stretch throughout the upper is particularly noticeable, offering excellent adaptability for various foot shapes and reduces the chance of creating 'hotspots' and areas of discomfort.
The toe-box is spacious with ample depth and width and small changes to the heel counter allowing for additional lockdown and greater adaptability for custom foot orthotics.
The Wave Sky 8 excels as a versatile shoe that caters to a wide range of runners. Whether you're a recreational runner in search of a dependable, cushioned option or an elite athlete needing a comfortable shoe for long or easy runs, the Wave Sky 8 delivers exceptional performance.
