KATE SHIMMIN SIGNS WITH MIZUNO
Mizuno are proud to announce the signing of Australian Fast5 and Adelaide Thunderbirds player Kate Shimmin. Kate began her career with the Thunderbirds in 2011 where she played for six seasons and was part of the 2013 premiership team. After a one year stint with the Queensland Firebirds she returned home in 2018 to the Thunderbirds. Kate has also been part of the Australian Fast5 team on several occasions since 2012.
Despite the team not having the best of seasons the strong defender has come off a solid season individually, being one of the top performing defenders in the league finishing 4th in deflections and 8th in intercepts. The strong, smart defender is therefore looking to help her hometown side climb back up the ladder over the next couple of seasons.
At only 26 Kate has achieved a lot in her career, some of her achievements thus far include:
- Adelaide Thunderbirds Team Member 2012-2016, 2018
- Queensland Firebirds Team Member 2017
- Australian Fast5 Team Member 2012-2014, 2016-2017
- Adelaide Thunderbirds Tanya Denver Medal Winner 2016
- Adelaide Thunderbirds Premiership Player 2013
- Australian U21 World Youth Team Vice Captain 2013
- AIS Scholarship Holder 2010
Mizuno Australia’s Head of Sport Shane Holub was thrilled with the addition, saying; “Kate is a great fit for Mizuno. She represents our values on & and off court and it’s easy to see why she’s gained such a great reputation in the netball world. We admire what she has been able to do on court; she’s strong, combative and clever and to have an Australian representative is a perfect addition to our team. We look forward to working with Kate as we continue to grow our brand in the netball space”
Be on the lookout for Kate as she will be sporting the new Mizuno Wave Stealth V on court during games for the remainder of 2018 and the 2019 SSN league season.
